Ice hockey for kids aged 8-11
The Atoms Program is one of Cockburn Ice Arena’s exciting new hockey programs and is aimed at skaters aged 11 and under.
Atoms is progressive, and made up of 3 components: Skate the Game, Small Area Games and Skills Sessions. Your child will enjoy a variety of fun games which incorporate core ice hockey concepts and elements. Their experience on the ice is enhanced with a team of friendly and experienced coaches who will provide instruction, guidance, inspire creativity and most importantly, provide positive encouragement.
The progression of the Atom
1. LEARN TO SKATE
The very first step in your ice hockey journey is learning how to ice skate. A pass in NOVICE 1 here needs to be obtained before moving onto Skate the Game.
2. SKATE THE GAME
Skate the Game is aimed at beginners, and focuses on skating techniques specific to ice hockey. It consists of 6 levels. A pass in SKATE 2 will allow the player to enrol in Small Area Games, while full completion of all 6 levels of Skate the Game are required for Skills Sessions. More…

3. SMALL AREA GAMES

Atoms is for children aged 8-11.
For children under 8 check out our Little Tackers program.
For children aged 12+ and adults check out our Skate the Game program.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
The following is compulsory for Skate the Game:
- hockey skates
- stick
- shin guards
- helmet
- knitted gloves or hockey gloves
- neck guard
WHAT’S INCLUDED
- 10 x 60 minute weekly lessons
- admission to the rink
- free entry to the Stick ‘n’ Puck session
on Thursdays at 3:45pm for the entire term - unlimited access to general sessions
for the entire term
LESSON DAYS
Choose one day from the following:
Monday 5:45pm – 6:45pm
Wednesday 4pm – 5pm
Saturday 12:30pm – 1:30pm
