About the Camp

This camp is designed to improve your skills and maximise enjoyment. Improve your skating agility, balance, coordination and speed. Increase kids overall knowledge of the game with hockey theory, off-ice training and the fundamentals of nutrition. Develop the elusive skill of hockey sense and situational awareness on the ice. Don’t go where the puck is go where it’s going to be.

  • Specialist sessions working on:
    • Small group tactics
    • Individual skating skills and body mechanics
    • Individual offensive and defensive tactics
    • Small area games
  • Devoted sessions for goalies 1 hour daily with Charlie Smart

The camp will be lead by Head Coach Matti Luoma, current head coach of the Australian Men’s National team, with years of coaching experience and a university degree in teaching ice hockey. Charlie Smart, qualified PT and the Australian team goalie for the last 4 years at World Championships.

Open to

Skaters aged 12 to 17, who are either:

  • CIA Hockey Academy players in Play the Game 1 or higher
  • Club level players and goalies from any club

What’s Included

  • 15 hours of ice time
  • 6 hours off ice training
  • Children will be supervised the whole time, so they can be dropped off by parents

Camp Schedule

Monday 24th – Friday 28th January

  • 8.15am: Drop off at the hockey rink
  • 8.30am: Warm up
  • 9.00am: Change room
  • 9.30am: 1.5 hour ice session
  • 11am: Change room with a quick fruit/veg snack
  • 11:15am: Off ice session in the Dance Studio or Park
  • 12:30pm: Lunch break
  • 1pm: Change room
  • 1:30pm: 1.5 hour ice session
  • 3pm: Change room
  • 3.15pm: Debrief
  • 3.30pm: Parent pick up at the hockey rink

What to bring

  • Full ice hockey gear required
  • All players need to bring a packed lunch daily and piece of fruit/veg for snack time
  • Bring dryland clothes, towel, a hat, water bottle and sneakers for some sessions in the park and dance studio
