ABOUT
Learn to play ice hockey over three comprehensive units:
Skate the Game 1: focuses on developing foundational hockey-specific skating skills such as posture, balance, forward skating, starts, stops, and working on basic edges.
Skate the Game 2: builds upon Skate The Game 1 by having a more in-depth focus on engaging inside edges, introducing backward skating, and helping players to start using outside edges.
Play the Game 1: focuses on more advanced skating skills such as forward, tight turns, and forward-to-backward pivots. Play the Game 1 introduces players the basic puck handling techniques such as grip width, mechanics of bottom and top hand on the hockey stick, and basic passing and shooting techniques.
Play the Game 2: takes skill development to the next level with backward starts and crossovers, transitional pivots, and mohawks. There is an extra emphasis on puck skills in Play The Game 2 where puckhandling mobility, deking against an opponent, and carrying the puck through tight turns and crossovers will be taught. Along with puck-carrying skills, proper shooting techniques will e demonstrated for wrist shots and backhands. Lastly, team skills such as passing to a moving target and skating while passing will be enhanced.
In The Game (NEW 2024): our new level of In The Game combines individual skills and applies them to real game scenarios such as 1 vs 1, 2 vs 1, and offensive rushes. Along with gameplay, this level will teach players how to break the puck out of the zone, where players should be when playing in their defensive zone, in addition to the basic rules like off-sides and icing. This level of the academy keeps players engaged and growing even after they have started playing in a league.
