After completion of NOVICE 2 in our Learn to Skate program, your Ice Hockey journey begins!
Cockburn’s Ice Hockey Academy is designed to safely advance you through three tiers of skill levels. Our coaches are highly trained to ensure your safety as you enjoy building your speed and confidence in this exciting sport!
Free Come & Try Hockey Lessons
Every wanted to try the world’s fastest team sport? We will be running 2x 60 minute ice hockey lessons for FREE these school holidays. They will both be held on the 20th of April. Registration is ESSENTIAL!

Our highly skilled coaches will guide and glide you along your way into this exciting, fun fast paced game.
Where can your ice hockey journey take you? How quickly you progress depends on how much time you want to dedicate to your advancement. In addition to our ice hockey programs, your ice hockey journey can include Stick & Puck practice sessions or scrimmages, House League, and of course, playing for the mighty Hawks Ice Hockey Club!
Our tip for getting better faster!
Take full advantage of the unlimited access to ice skating sessions, and your free weekly Stick & Puck session when you join our programs, and you will develop your skills much more rapidly. Private lessons can streamline your progression, and can be booked inside Stick & Puck sessions.
Ice Hockey Academy levels
START: Learn to Skate
A pass in BASIC 2 in our Learn to Skate program is required prior to joining our Ice Hockey Academy. This normally can be achieved in one term.
LEVEL 1: Hockey Skills: Basic
Gain your confidence on the ice with basic equipment and discover your love for the game, as our highly skilled coaches help you begin your hockey journey.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
If you need to, you can borrow a stick, skates and a helmet from us!
LEVEL 2: Hockey Skills: At Speed
Now that you are moving confidently, and have acquired the basic skills, skating with speed sees you fine tuning the basics.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
Hockey skates, stick, shin guards, gloves, helmet, neck guard.
LEVEL 3: Play the Game 1
At this stage of your development you know you’ve found your game for life!
Full hockey gear is now essential to the game, become familiar with wearing it full time while continuing to learn.
LEVEL 4: Play the Game 2
While refining the basic skills of skating, stick handling, and shooting at speed you’ll be introduced to the basics of strategic hockey techniques for games. You may also, by invitation, be selected to play in either the Cockburn House League or the Hawks Ice Hockey Club.
