Fremantle Primary School Fundraiser! 5th September 2020, 5pm – 7pm

$21.00

Event: Disco on Ice – A Private Fundraising Event booked for our Fremantle Primary School Community at Cockburn Ice Arena to raise money for the 2020 Year 6 Camp

Date: Saturday 5th September, 2020

Time: 5-7pm (Note the venue, including the warm cafe, will open from 4.30pm allowing time to arrive, get skates on and generally build excitement ready to get on the ice when the rink opens at 5pm)

Cost: $21 per skater (50% of each ticket goes to your P&C to raise funds for the Y6 school camp). Spectators are given free entry. Interpreters will be given free entry and free skate hire. 3 and 4 year olds have a reduced rate that includes free skate hire – these are called toddler tickets. Toddler tickets for 3 and 4 year olds should be bought at the ticket desk on arrival. No funds are raised from sale of toddler tickets due to the reduced cost but we’d love them to come and join in the fun too. Ticket includes regular skate hire and complimentary helmet hire if desired. Helmets are not compulsory but are strongly recommended by the Ice Arena. Guests can bring their own helmets if preferred (but helmets are not compulsory).

Skating frames, “seals” and “kangas” will be provided complimentary with thanks from our sponsor, Connie Handcock of CAPORN REAL ESTATE!  These will help any novice skaters of any age who want to leave the side of the rink but still have something to hold onto!

There will be a pay it forward system in place for anyone who wishes to purchase additional tickets to enable children to skate whose families are experiencing financial hardship at this time. Simply purchase however many extra tickets you wish to donate, print those tickets and give them to Leesa in the school office who will ensure they make their way to the families who need a bit of help the most right now.

Who can skate: Anyone with a ticket aged 3 or over! Adults can skate too including parents, teachers, EAs and admin! Older siblings are of course also welcome.

Food and Drink – There is a warm cafe onsite with windows directly onto the ice rink. The cafe sells hot and cold drinks, hot chips and other fast food snacks, sandwiches, cakes, cookies, lollies, crisps (chips?) and ice creams if you need to refuel a little during the two hour event.

Music – There will be a DJ who can take requests so get your top songs lined up! Music will not be too loud but loud enough to be fun and atmospheric – we know we have lots of kids with sensitive ears. Music will be kept very low in the cafe (and can be turned off in the cafe if desired) so that there is a retreat space for anyone feeling overwhelmed or just needing a bit of a break.

Lighting – There will be disco lighting but it won’t be as dark as a typical disco environment, partly for safety but particularly to ensure visual communication is also supported (auslan and lipreading is very hard in dimly lit environments).

Marshalls – There will be two ice marshalls on the ice at all times to help beginners. They will also provide demonstrations in a mini group lesson to help everyone learn the basics of ice-skating and they will organise some games too.

First Aid – There will be a qualified first-aider rostered on to staff the event. (We also have had a beautiful parent in our community volunteer to provide first aid if required!)

What to wear – Dress as a celebrity!  Be it a movie star, TV star, sports star, cartoon character, let your imagination go wild!  Gloves are a great idea with long trousers and long sleeved tops. A hat and scarf could be a good idea if you get cold, and probably essential for spectators unless you spectate from the warm cafe! Layers are recommended for skaters as you do get warm skating so won’t want to be rugged up for two hours, but it can be cold to start off.

Yay Freo PS community, you rock! This is going to be so much fun (and so sorry to those of you who won’t be able to make it this time, thank you for wishing the event well).
